Planning The Village
Gold Level Catalyst
The Village at Market Creek earned "Gold" status as a sustainable, economically vibrant community, due in part to resident ownership of the plans, process, and assets of community development. The California Department of Housing and Community Development developed the Catalyst Projects for California Sustainable Strategies Pilot Program to enable the state of California to support local innovation, develop projects that integrate environmental, economic transportation and housing goals, and test strategies for broad implementation throughout California. The gold award comes with $1.35 million grant.
What does it mean to our community?
Having been awarded this gold recognition it gives us priority status with 11 State agencies ranging from CalTrans to the California Energy Commission, putting us at the front of the line with these agencies for future funding to further develop The Village as a great place to live, work, and play.
Why did we win?
The Village at Market Creek was given gold status because it demonstrates what can happen when residents own the vision and are involved in the decision making process from the beginning. The California Department of Housing believes that The Village at Market Creek is a model for other communities to learn from.
